The area of Bijele and Samarske stijene is protected as a strict nature reserve, the highest protection level in Croatia. It offers pristine wilderness and very difficult karst terrain, full of wildlife and plants. Fjällräven chose this magnificent place in Croatia to organize a trek and invited me to document it with my camera.
For those who don’t know, Fjällräven is an outdoor apparel company from Sweden most famous by Kånken backpack. More importantly Fjällräven is a company whose workforce are not children, they are also very environmentally conscious and the products they make will last you a lifetime. If you haven’t already, give them a try, or check their code of conduct.
The meeting point was by the Adriatic Sea, in a nice camp. From there it took us about one hour drive into the mountain to start the trek. We did the south loop in Samarske stijene, which is personally my favorite trail there and one of the best I have ever seen. Ratkovo sklonište mountain hut is one of the most iconic in Croatia, and it served us quite well for the night. Rain poured down on us the next day, forcing us to retreat to the valley. I have to thank Fjällräven and Vertical Adventures Slovenia for an awesome weekend. Hope we get to do it again!
I shot only on Fujifilm X100F, the simplicity and ease of it never stops to amaze me. It’s a pure joy to use it.
