In the summer of 2023, my partner and I, along with our faithful dog Simba, embarked on a memorable journey to the picturesque Ötztal Valley in Austria. Armed with my Leica M4 and a selection of Kodak Portra 160 film, I was eager to capture the serene beauty of this alpine paradise.
Ötztal is an extensive valley offering a plethora of activities and sights. However, we chose to embrace a slower pace, allowing ourselves to fully absorb the moments and landscapes that unfolded before us. Our days were filled with leisurely walks, engaging conversations, and immersive experiences in nature. This unhurried approach enabled us to connect deeply with the environment and each other. The upper Ötztal Valley boasts numerous trails that cater to hikers of all levels. With Simba leading the way, we explored several dog-friendly paths, each offering unique vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The well-marked trails and the valley’s commitment to accommodating canine companions made our hikes enjoyable and stress-free.
The natural light and diverse landscapes of Ötztal provided the perfect setting for photography. The Kodak Portra 160 film beautifully rendered the valley’s colors and contrasts, from the lush greens of the meadows to the rugged textures of the alpine terrain. Each photograph serves as a tangible memory of our journey, encapsulating the essence of our experiences.
Our time in the Ötztal Valley was a reminder of the joys of slowing down and immersing oneself in the present moment. The combination of natural beauty, leisurely exploration, and quality time with loved ones made this holiday truly special.
