In June 2024, I embarked on a two-week escape to the enchanting Verzasca Valley in Ticino, Switzerland. My partner and I rented a secluded riverside cabin, immersing ourselves in the natural beauty and tranquility of this picturesque region.

Upon arriving in the Verzasca Valley, we were immediately captivated by its pristine landscapes—emerald-green waters, rugged granite cliffs, and charming stone villages. Our cabin, nestled by the river, offered a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort, providing an idyllic sanctuary away from the bustle of daily life. Each day presented new opportunities for exploration. We hiked along the famous Sentierone trail, which meanders through the valley, offering breathtaking views of the Verzasca River and surrounding mountains. The trail’s varied terrain, from narrow forest paths to open meadows, kept our hikes engaging and rewarding. One of the highlights was visiting the iconic Ponte dei Salti in Lavertezzo, a double-arched stone bridge steeped in history and architectural beauty. The crystal-clear pools beneath the bridge were perfect for a refreshing swim, and we often found ourselves returning to this spot to relax and soak in the serene atmosphere.

Armed with my Leica M-A and a Summilux 35mm lens, I aimed to capture the valley’s essence on Kodak Portra 400 film. The interplay of light and shadow on the granite cliffs, the vibrant hues of the river, and the timeless architecture of the villages provided endless inspiration. The natural beauty of Ticino truly felt like a paradise for photography enthusiasts.

Our two-week retreat in the Verzasca Valley was a rejuvenating experience, allowing us to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature and each other. The combination of outdoor adventures, cultural immersion, and serene landscapes made it a perfect getaway. For those seeking a tranquil escape amidst nature’s splendor, the Verzasca Valley in Ticino offers an unparalleled experience. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a photography enthusiast, or simply in search of peace and quiet, this hidden gem in Switzerland is sure to leave a lasting impression.
