Carinthia

Wooden mountain cottage at dawn surrounded by alpine meadows in Carinthia, Austria

June, 2025.

A couple of weeks ago, Ines, Simba and I decided to escape the heat at home and headed to Carinthia in Austria. We stayed in a small wooden cottage deep in the Alps. Nothing fancy, but it had everything we needed.

Most of the days we spent hiking through forests and across open meadows. I kept it simple on the photography side too, just my Leica M-A with a 50mm lens and a few rolls of Kodak Portra 800. No screens or instant previews, which somehow suited the pace of being up there.

While it was over 30 degrees back home, here it felt almost like a different season. Mornings were fresh, and in the evenings we had to light a fire to keep warm. The smell of wood smoke mixing with cold mountain air made it easy to forget about everything else.

We didn’t really have a plan. We just walked, enjoyed the silence and let Simba explore wherever he wanted. In the end, that felt like enough. A few quiet days in the mountains, some photos to remember them by, and time spent together without rushing anywhere.
