Lubenovac
April, 2026.
Lubenovac is a scenic valley on Velebit, known for its wide grasslands and raw mountain beauty. Simba and I spent a few nights camping there, surrounded by silence and pristine nature. It was still early in the season, and patches of snow were blocking the approach road, leaving the whole area almost untouched. There was no one around.
Nights were cold, mornings frosty. Simba would stay longer in the tent, curled up in my sleeping bag, waiting for the sun to warm the valley. But as soon as he heard a suspicious sound, he had to come outside, check it out, and keep guard.
Just wildlife.
Deer moving quietly through the forest. Chamois high on the rocky slopes. And from a safe distance, a bear mother with two cubs crossing the valley.
Trips like this are why I keep coming back to Velebit. The rawness, the silence, and the feeling that life moves differently up there. No distractions, no signal, no rush. Just cold mornings, long walks, and a dog that takes his job of guarding camp very seriously.
